Many thanks to those who attended the March 12 HOA meeting

Many thanks to those who attended the March 12 HOA meeting. It really does take a strong community to make things happen, and by the strength of the meeting on Wednesday night, I’d say that we’re doing pretty darn good!

For those of you who did attend the meeting, you had a chance to meet all five candidates on The Park Ridge Five’s slate-Kelly Thompson, Kim Wolfe, Sally Watkins, John Norton and Jim Manhart. Five out of the eight candidates running for the Board of Directors seats were present at the open session portion of the meeting.

Please know that we are five people who care about our community and want to see our investment flourish. Come talk to us if you happen to see us walking around the complex. We are happy to tell you the ideas we have for the community and how we propose to make these things happen around Park Ridge.

Please also know that change can only come if you VOTE. Please follow all directions exactly for filling out your ballot and either mail it in or walk it in to the April 9th meeting. The vote will not become official if we do not have fifty-one percent of the owners submitting ballots! Please submit your ballot!

Thanks a bunch!

Is this blog for real? It appears to have a suspicious agenda.

I would like to address the above comment.

I live in Parkridge and also have a rental in Parkridge. I've lived here for over 12 years and initially moved in as a renter. So I feel that I'm in touch with many perspectives of life around here.

I like it here and this is my contribution. I have not mustered up the courage to volunteer for a board position and the countless, thankless hours those individuals donate.

One evening my tenants called to report no hot water. I took this seriously and truly know how they felt...helpless. After a call to the management company where I could only leave a voice message and checking with a couple of neighbors, I was forced to be a lame landlord and do nothing.

In this day and age of on line banking, eBay, Wikipedia, Google and even my kids grades on line, I could not believe there was no resource for Parkridge neighbors to share information. It's like when you are waiting for a delayed flight...it's less frustrating when you at least know why.

I am no IT person or web expert or anything like it but I sat down at my computer that evening and did not go to sleep until this blog was up and running. Thus the theme is "Sharing information with Parkridge neighbors to add to everyone’s awareness and enjoyment of the community".

I approve every comment and topic submitted except for those I consider to vulgar or aggressive.

That's the agenda!

Feel free to sign you future comments and elaborate on your reasoning behind the "suspicious agenda" theory.

Perhaps there is no agenda in that this blog belongs to Howard and he may post or not post messages as he sees fit. The stated purpose of this blog was to offer residents a forum to exchange useful information with each other. It also turned into a venue where people can vent their frustrations, whether those frustrations are with a specific individual or issue. That's what every blog on the internet is for!!

Now I haven't been here all that long, but I was at the meeting where Julie and the big guy from Diversified Property Management gave Parkridge the heave-ho. It was obvious that this Rene Fernandez character was (is) nothing but an self-absorbed wannabe intellectual who doesn't want to hear criticism at any level.

Now here it is a little over a year since then and Rene has quit the Board and some stuff actually got done. Bloggers have mentioned the two papers that the Rene/Kevin group and the "Parkridge Five" have written. I was visited in my unit by both groups and, after thinking about it for awhile, I came to the conclusion that there wasn't much strategic difference between the two.

The leaders of both groups don't seem to want to listen, they just want to give orders and watch things happen. Here's an example. The Rene/Kevin group seems to feel that rules enforcement is of paramount importance (in spite of the fact the rules we are supposed to follow aren't posted anywhere). The Parkridge Five's priority seems to be addressing the water and roof problems but don't seem to be open to modifying their strategy. Besides the fact they can't stand each other, that's where both groups are the same. Some people would call that leadership, others, including myself, would call it dictatorial.

For what its worth, my feeling is that if the "Parkridge Five" get elected, the water problem may get resolved, but it won't be pleasant at several levels. And if the Kevin/Rene group or some combination of the two groups get elected, there will be nothing but conflict.

I came to the conclusion last year that the reason Julie and Diversified left us was because of Rene Fernandez. If he gets on the board this year, I would expect that Nancy, Desiree and their management company will leave also in a short time. So the election is a matter of selecting the lesser of two evils, for lack of a better phrase.

Hmmmm. Water and roof repair versus rule enforcement. I think I know where my vote is going!
